This mask is a handmade work of art, a unique piece that required a long and rigorous process to create. Made at my home in the Peruvian Andes during the pandemic, the design and functionality provide personal ornament full of symbolism inspired by my Pre-Columbian culture.
From ancient times felines have represented the power of being alert, in a conscious state, in permanent vigilance. As sacred entities for indigenous peoples, jaguars and pumas provide us protection. The strength of their fangs drives away any danger. In these pandemic times it is good to have “protection” and at the same time be aware of our natural environment to protect it as a feline defends its sacred territory.
